Lancer Square is a new development of thirty-six boutique apartments and penthouses, nestled in the heart of the Kensington Palace conservation area. Designed by Squire and Partners and built by Mace, the project provides residents with luxurious living spaces and facilities such as private spa, treatment rooms, gym and swimming pool.
On the site of the former kitchen gardens to Kensington Palace and then its barracks for the Royal Lancers, the design is a contemporary interpretation of the architectural character typical of the Kensington Palace Conservation area. The decision to use a two-tone brick on the façade has been inspired by the varying brown and red brick found on Kensington Palace, and the traditional vertical window proportions, horizontal stone banding and brick columns of the Palace have been translated into a contemporary elevation.
Shadbolt were heavily involved with the project manufacturing and supplying a host of items. These included FSC® certified stile and rail pattern straight grain and crown cut American black walnut veneered FD30 and FD60 fire resistant panelled door assemblies with brass metal inserts let into routed feature grooves; all doors and frames were stained and finished to a 60% gloss sheen. Matching veneered panels were also supplied.
