Extensively refurbished, reconfigured and repositioned, 60 London Wall is a striking reinvention of a postmodern office building in the City of London. EPR Architects has created a design where the building has been stripped back to the frame and re-cored to provide efficient high quality modern workplace accommodation.
The project, led by Skanska, required the removal of all internal walls and the formation of a new atrium through the centre of the building. The existing steel frame was exposed with new steel spliced on to the existing frame. The upper floors are terraced back in steps creating sky gardens for the enjoyment of the occupants.
The property provides 325,000 sq ft of prime Grade A office space over ten floors and a newly reconfigured ground floor retail offering totalling 20,000 sq ft. The office floors range from 18,000 sq ft to 40,000 sq ft, with 21,000 sq ft of terraces over the five upper floors. Overall the new development offers 30% more floor accommodation than the previous building.
Shadbolt were heavily involved with the project manufacturing and supplying a host of items. FSC® certified Alpi engineered Walnut veneered Euroclass B panels and FD30 and FD60 fire resistant doors with factory primed hardwood framesets were supplied throughout the building. All veneered items were stain finished to match the architects’ approved pattern. In addition, Fenix “Nero Ingo” and “Bianco Kos” laminated fire resistant door assemblies and flush rebated washroom cubicle doors were also supplied.
